Everybody in the United States should tour the rural scenic areas of Utah.

We have seen nearly as many European tourists in this area as US citizen tourists

This first section concentrates on Southwest Utah, roughly from Zion National Park and Kanab through Capital Reef National Park

Utah has 5 national parks,

plus Monument Valley which is a Navaho National Park

Bryce Canyon National Park is one of the Crown Jewels of the National Park System.

Arches National Park is unforgettable. See Landscape Arch soon. It may fall any time.

The last major rock fall from this arch was in the 1990’s.

Capital Reef National Park gives a whole new meaning to scale.

Canyonlands National Park is wild.
We hoped to explore the wilder sections, but dogs are not allowed even in your 4 Wheel Drive vehicle in the wilder areas.

Zion National Park is a favorite with rock climbers and creek waders.

Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is the landscape of the American West to those who have seen the old western movies like Stagecoach. Many Europeans expect to find all of the American West to be like Monument Valley.

If all of the national parks were not enough, there are National Monuments,
Bureau of Land Management Areas, unusually scenic National Forests,  wonderful state parks, scenic areas, back roads, scenic highways, and Native American historical sites such as Newspaper Rock.

There really is a Big Rock Candy Mountain. It is on Hwy 89 in Utah. It received its name from its spring, which actually tastes like lemonade — just like in the song.

You will find the Big Rock Candy Mountain on US 89 north of Interstate 70. It is not on the map above. We only drove by this interesting site, we did not explore.

On the left is our rig in the area. On the right is the colorful Big Rock Candy Mountain.

These oxen were sunning themselves in their pasture near the back road we were following.
